Weekend Storytelling with Joe Hayes
July 7 – August 12, Saturday and Sunday Evenings at 7:00
p.m.
For the 25th consecutive year, the Wheelwright Museum is happy
to bring back New Mexico’s premier storyteller! Joe Hayes is a
nationally recognized teller of Southwestern tales from the Native
American, Hispanic, and Anglo cultures. A generation of Santa Fe’s
children has grown up listening to his tales, and Joe has visited
over 3,000 schools throughout his career. His bilingual style has
earned him a distinctive place among American storytellers, and
he has won numerous awards for both his storytelling
and his children’s books, several of which are featured at
our Case Trading Post. Just this year, Joe won the prestigious
Texas Bluebonnet Award - an award that is voted upon by 170,000
schoolchildren
- for his book Ghost Fever. For his storytelling Joe has received
the New Mexico Governor’s Award for Excellence and Achievement
in the Arts, which is the highest honor accorded by the state for
accomplishment in the arts.
If you haven’t seen Joe Hayes
tell a story, don’t miss
him at the Wheelwright this Summer! This event takes place outside and is weather permitting.
Please bring a blanket, pillow, or lawn chair to sit on.
