After the busy months of activity here at Wheelwright, I am pleased to resume the Case Trading Post’s “Manager’s Selections” by showcasing a small variety of work by the great Navajo stamp work and jewelry master Norbert Peshlakai. I have known Norbert for over 10 years, and I am honored and thrilled to have had the opportunity to carry his work over the past few years. This spring, he was one of our jewelry demonstrators at the grand opening of the museum’s new Center for the Study of Southwestern Jewelry. Norbert, originally from Crystal, New Mexico, began silversmithing in the early 1970s. Over the past 40 years, his charm and precision show in each piece he has created. Known for introducing stamped silver seed pots, Norbert remains passionate about jewelry. Whether it’s a fancy buckle, whimsical pendant, or simple ring, Norbert’s work truly speaks and shows “Norbert”. I’ve also included two framed sketches by Norbert, circa 1980s. These charming pieces, more rare to the market, show his artistic skill — these sketches sometimes evolve into jewelry pieces. Please enjoy this fun group of items and add a piece (or two) to your collection!
Warm Holiday wishes,
Ken Williams
