Greetings from sunny Santa Fe! As many of you know, many exciting things have been happening with the Wheelwright Museum lately. Our big opening last week for the new wing, the Center for the Study of Southwestern Jewelry, was fantastic. The weekend events were fun! We have all been busy in the mix of things and I’m finally getting a chance to send out a new “Manager’s Selections”. For the month of June, I am pleased to present seven highly detailed miniature Katsina carvings by Timothy Talawepi. Over the past few months, I’ve had Tim make me several of these great pieces, and I am excited to now present them to you. Tim comes from Hopi, at the Third Mesa: the Village of Hotevilla. He is a member of the Greasewood and Bamboo clan. He has been carving now for 32 years, first becoming serious in high school. He notes that he saw his dad carving in the old-time style, but he wanted to experiment and carve a different way, so he gravitated towards making highly detailed pieces. I have been thrilled to know Tim for several years and seeing what he creates is always fun. Enjoy all these wonderful miniatures, most being under 4” tall. Check out all the details and tiny additions he’s done to make these truly small “gems.” I hope all of you are having a great summer, and let us know if you want to add one (or two) of these to your collection!

With well wishes,

Ken Williams
Manager, Case Trading Post
