The Turquoise Museum is a privately owned museum that has become a favored tourist attraction in Albuquerque. The building is a replica of a French chateau and was built by Gertrude Zachery in the 1990’s. Gertrude married into the Zachery family known for their involvement in turquoise and Indian jewelry. She became an established Indian arts dealer and her business continues today. The Museum houses the turquoise collection of Zack Zachery and is managed by his grandson Joe Dan Lowry and his son Jacob. It is one of the most extensive turquoise collections in the world.
Those participating will meet at the Wheelwright Museum at 8:45 and carpool to the Turquoise Museum in Albuquerque to arrive at 10am. The tour is self guided tour with Mike Ryan providing commentary on the exhibit. Lunch is optional (not included in the trip cost) and will be organized at an Old town restaurant.
