The ATLATL (a Native American Arts and Service Organization) sponsored traveling exhibit, Women of Sweetgrass, Cedar, and Sage- Contemporary Art by Native American Women, included paintings, weavings, ceramic work, jewelry, beadwork, photography, quilts and basketry.
It was accompanied by a panel discussion with some of the artists and originators of the exhibit moderated by Erin Younger, centering on the exhibit’s significance as it finishes its two-year North American tour.
The exhibition focused on Hopi weaver, Ramona Sakiestewa’s work and included traditional, contemporary, and commissioned pieces.
Around 1880 potters of Cochiti Pueblo began making large standing figures of circus performers, cowboys, merchants, and other outsiders who, with the coming of the railroad, encroached increasingly on the Pueblo world.
