The ATLATL (a Native American Arts and Service Organization) sponsored traveling exhibit, Women of Sweetgrass, Cedar, and Sage- Contemporary Art by Native American Women, included paintings, weavings, ceramic work, jewelry, beadwork, photography, quilts and basketry.
It was accompanied by a panel discussion with some of the artists and originators of the exhibit moderated by Erin Younger, centering on the exhibit’s significance as it finishes its two-year North American tour.
The multi-generational history of Native American painting as a woman’s art in the Southwest can be traced through the work of three women.
The exhibition focused on Hopi weaver, Ramona Sakiestewa’s work and included traditional, contemporary, and commissioned pieces.
